To say that 2023 was a great year for PA online gambling would be an understatement. To close out 2023, Pennsylvania online casinos alone generated more than $1.5 billion to the overall $5.7 billion gambling total, which also includes PA sports betting. If there were any fears about things slowing down in 2024 for the Keystone State, guess again.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board recently released April’s iGaming earnings, which topped more than $212 million. April marks the third month PA online casinos set record profit margins this year. April’s eye-bopping totals come after a slightly disappointing March. Still, the picture is clear: Pennsylvania’s online casinos are noticeably doing better than last year’s mark by more than 25%. With April’s surprise amount, which normally equals a slow month in previous years, the Keystone State has already generated over $800 million in online gambling revenue.
While the slot games at land-based casinos in 2023 more than held their own at $2.5, PA table games continued to surge in profit in 2024. For 2023, Pennsylvania’s table games failed to gross $1 billion. Still, with PA online casinos generating more than 27% in gambling revenue compared to 2022, it is clear that the future of gambling lies with the iGaming sector.
PA online slots led the charge with nearly $165 million in revenue for April, while table games like PA online blackjack and PA online roulette delivered a formidable $45 million in April. In April, poker fans in the Keystone State dropped over $2 million in PA online poker wagers.
Pennsylvania has over twenty legal online casino sites licensed by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board; even though April 2024 broke last April’s record, believe it or not, it was somewhat of a cooling-off period. But of all the formidable online casinos in the Keystone State, Bally PA, has remained consistent in improving its monthly online gambling profits through April so far. Bally closed out April with a nearly $2k bump from its $4.5 million March haul. Even more impressive is that Bally has actually been improving the profit train since last November.
With so much promising data and figures to begin 2024, casino analysts and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board expect to report that PA online gambling has crossed over the $1 billion plateau by the end of May. Even with Unibet PA set to depart the North American market come June, PA online gambling remains in safe hands. Mohegan Sun, the former land-based partner of Unibet, has already launched its new website, and it’s picking up steam thanks to the Momentum program.
Fanatics Casino went live in the Keystone State at the beginning of the year, while Jackpot City Casino opened its virtual lobby in December 2023. Currently, Mr. Vegas is expected to make its license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board official soon and is expected to launch by summer 2024. With three new additions, 2024 quickly looks like it will shatter 2023’s $5.7 billion record in total gambling revenue.
