  • WynnBet online casino app awarded license to operate by Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board
  • WynnBet finally approved after submitting application in October 2021
  • Wynn’s popular sportsbook app will not be included in this license leaving sports bettors frustrated

At their monthly meeting held on December 14th, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) approved the long-awaited online casino license for WynnBet. The license covers online table games and slots through the operator’s mobile app and website.

Since WynnBet does not run an actual casino in the state, they needed to partner with a current casino in Pennsylvania to earn their online casino license.  WynnBet met those requirements by partnering with Harrah’s Casino in Philadelphia.

Although no official date has been set, WynnBet officials have indicated their online casino will officially open for business sometime in early 2023.

WynnBet Will Only Offer Online Casino, No Sports Betting

Along with news of the license’s approval comes the frustrating news that Wynn’s extremely popular sportsbook app will not be included with this gaming license. As it stands, WynnBet will only offer their online casino  for Pennsylvania sports bettors at the time of launch.

Roughly 24 hours before the PGCB decision to let the Vegas-based company operate an online casino, Massachusetts Gaming Commission approved WynnBet to become the first-ever online sports betting operation in the state’s history.

Gaming Board Opens More Licenses for Out of State Operators

In addition to approving the WynnBet license, the PCGB also decided to reopen their application process to qualified gaming businesses that are currently located out of state. Online casino operators based outside of Pennsylvania need a partnership with a state-run casino with a physical location. But with the news from the monthly PCGB meeting, more operators can apply without needing to secure that outside partnership, potentially bringing in bigger online casino operators from around the world to Pennsylvania.
